New Horizon Irvine received 6 out of 13 top awards for 5th – 8th grade in The Hassan Hathout Foundation Essay Contest!

New Horizon School, Irvine’s fifth – eighth grade students participated in the ninth annual Hassan Hathout Legacy Foundation’s essay contest. The Hassan Hathout Foundation is an educational nonprofit organization whose mission is to spread the message of ‘Love in God’ through the work and legacy of Hassan Hathout. This year, students were asked to submit an essay titled “How to Grow a Loving Heart” in which they describe how this topic relates to a personal activity or experience, historic event, or current world event.

The contest expanded on the national level to include numerous distant states. We are pleased to announce that 6 students from our fifth – eighth grades were selected as winners!

We’d like to congratulate Alesha, Ranya, Farah, Zayd, Omar, and Yahya for their hard work and truly inspirational writing.

We hope these students will continue to inspire us all to “grow a loving heart” and make the world a better place for our children. A special event will be held for the top contestants where each will receive a monetary award.

We’d also like to thank their teachers for their commitment and dedication in educating the leaders of tomorrow, inshAllah. #NHIRVINE#ProudHawk

Grateful Giving, Grantful Giving

Join us in giving to the New Horizon Annual Fund. This year’s Annual Fund campaign has been named “Grateful Giving/Grantful Giving”, capturing the spirit of why our community should consider New Horizon worthy of their contributions. The Grateful Giving portion of the campaign inspires families to consider New Horizon’s indelible role in raising our children to be knowledgeable, confident, and compassionate American Muslims. New Horizon School, Irvine was built on the vision and generosity of thousands of people who believed in the transforming power of Islamic education. Continuing this tradition of support is essential to fulfilling New Horizon’s mission and enabling it to thrive in the years to come. Therefore, we ask families to consider New Horizon as one of their top 3 organizations to support on an annual basis.

Gifts to the Annual Fund ensure the quality and excellence of a New Horizon Irvine education. Your gift directly benefits ALL students and ALL aspects of the New Horizon experience. Every gift makes a difference, and all gifts are MATCHED, dollar for dollar. Our goal is 100% parent participation.

A successful Annual Fund Campaign depends on the participation from every member of the school community  – parents, faculty, staff, alumni, grandparents, trustees, friends, foundations and corporations. The Annual Fund supports our mission and assists us in maintaining New Horizon’s commitment to provide excellent academic education.

You can donate online in one of two ways:

Donate via Credit Card

Donate via Paypal

Your contribution towards the Annual Fund help us accomplish the following:

  • Help retain exceptional teachers
  • Maintain a small student to teacher ratio
  • Expand and improve technological innovation within the curriculum
  • Support performing arts programs, athletics program and additional projects throughout the school year
  • Provide tuition adjustment to help families afford an education at New Horizon

Alumni Spotlight: Amin Gosla, Class of 2006 & Asiya Gosla, Class of 2008

Our alumni are the heart of our school because they carry with them the firm foundation of a New Horizon Irvine education in all that they do. It is always a privilege to receive alumni updates and news, Dr. Dina Eletreby was overjoyed when two New Horizon alums reached out to her specifically to share that they’ve been accepted into medical school! It is so heartwarming to know that our alumni remember us long after they graduate, and still feel a close bond to Dr. Eletreby that they would want to personally reach out and share their accomplishments. This is just another demonstration of the lasting impact of our unique program as well as the life-long bond we have with our alumni.

Amin Gosla, New Horizon Class of 2006

“New Horizon is the first place that taught me to explain my faith to others, which is important when meeting with diverse individuals.” Amin Gosla, a first-year medical school student, and a member of the Class of 2006 at New Horizon School, Irvine.

Amin recently graduated in 2016 from University of California Irvine (UCI) with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. He was acknowledged in publication for his research project that aimed to predict the effect of novel cancer drugs on heart muscle using machine learning. Amin also worked at Hitachi Chemical America as a Research Assistant developing biosensor electrodes. Amin served as the leader on a startup project centered around the goal of optically monitoring chemotherapy. The team received several awards in both research and business. He is currently studying Osteopathic Medicine at Des Moines University (DMU) College of Medicine where he is on the board of the Muslim Student Association. Amin recalls Islamic Studies as the most important subject he learned as a student at New Horizon.

When asked about what his favorite memory of New Horizon is, he says playing soccer and basketball with his friends. “Put the effort in to give yourself a strong foundation and have some fun!

Asiya Gosla, New Horizon Class of 2008

“New Horizon taught me to always stay true to my values and be proud of my background.” said Asiya Gosla a first-year medical student at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Asiya recently graduated in 2016 from University of California, Irvine with a Bachelor’s in Public Health Sciences. During her time at UC Irvine, Asiya volunteered at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). After graduation, she continued her work in the healthcare field by interning at Dr. Hamilton’s office in Irvine.

Asiya states that her time at New Horizon is filled with great memories. Some of her favorite memories include the Catalina Island trip and the afterschool photography and writing class.

When asked about advice Asiya would give to current students, she says to enjoy your time at New Horizon because it is a family that you will always have. “The most important thing New Horizon taught me is to be proud of who I am and to put my best effort into everything I do.”
